Maintain large scale wind turbine generators


Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to undertake scheduled maintenance of large scale wind turbine generators.

Scheduled maintenance typically includes a list of predetermined maintenance actions carried out at regular time intervals to prevent breakdowns. It includes monitoring, inspecting and maintaining large scale wind turbine generators to ensure their safe and efficient operation.

Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan work, conduct maintenance and complete all work tasks. Individuals will, in general, work under supervision in an electrical, electronic and/or mechanical equipment repair workshop or on site.

Power generation maintenance personnel are typically trained and authorised to receive permits to work.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Note: Workplace practice

The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit of competency may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace, where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Plan and prepare for work

1.1

Requirements including scope of work and assigned roles are identified and confirmed with appropriate personnel or by site inspection, in accordance with workplace procedures

Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, legislative requirements, industry standards, codes of practice, manufacturers' specifications, environmental obligations and workplace procedures are reviewed in preparation for work

Resources are obtained and inspected for compliance with job specification

Relevant plans, drawings and manuals are selected and used, in accordance with workplace procedures

Work is planned, sequenced and prioritised, in accordance with workplace procedures

Conduct maintenance

Wind turbine generator equipment is replaced, in accordance with manufacturers' specifications and workplace procedures

Diagnostic testing and data from monitoring systems are used to identify wind turbine generator components requiring maintenance

Wind turbine generator equipment is dismantled for maintenance, in accordance with manufacturers' specifications and workplace procedures

Approved workplace techniques are used to enable identification or reassembly of components or equipment, in accordance with workplace procedures

New components are obtained and inspected, in accordance with workplace procedures, for compliance with manufacturers' specifications

Wind turbine generator equipment or components are tested, monitored and adjusted, in accordance with manufacturers' specifications and workplace procedures

Complete work

3.1

Work is completed and appropriate personnel are notified, in accordance with workplace procedures

Work area is cleared of waste, cleaned, restored and secured, in accordance with workplace procedures

Tools and equipment are maintained and stored, in accordance with workplace procedures
